1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing StrikeForceNiner.com and participating in the Millennium 2099 MUD, you agree to abide by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of this document, you must stop using the website and the game immediately.

2. User Accounts and Security

  • Age Requirement: You must be at least 13 years of age to access this website and create an account for Millennium 2099. If you are under 18, you represent that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to use the service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we determine that an account belongs to a user under 13, it will be immediately terminated and all associated data deleted.
  • Account Responsibility: Creating an account requires providing accurate information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account details. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account. We reserve the right to terminate accounts, remove content, or cancel service at our sole discretion at any time.
  • Account Inactivity: To manage server resources, we reserve the right to delete accounts and all associated in-game data if an account remains inactive (no successful logins) for a period of 180 consecutive days.

3. Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use

The community environment within Millennium 2099 relies on fair play and mutual respect. By participating, you agree to the following rules:

  • No Harassment or Abuse: Hate speech, targeted harassment, and abusive language toward other players or administrators are strictly prohibited.
  • No Exploitation: You must not exploit bugs, glitches, or server vulnerabilities for personal gain. If you discover a bug, you must report it to the administration.
  • Scripting and Automation: Client-side macros and scripts are permitted for convenience. Unattended botting or scripts designed to maliciously overload the server are strictly prohibited.
  • No Malicious Activity: Do not attempt to hack, disrupt, or launch denial-of-service attacks against the server.

4. Intellectual Property, Open Source, and Virtual Property

  • Service vs. Source Code: The live hosted instance of Millennium 2099, the website design, the user database, and all live character data are the exclusive proprietary property of StrikeForceNiner.com. Accessing the live game server does not grant you open-source rights to the proprietary live game state.
  • Dual-Licensing for Open Source Releases: For our public open-source repository releases (such as on GitHub), we utilize a hybrid licensing model. The underlying software codebase and engine mechanics are licensed under the MIT License. All creative content, including world-building, lore, character backgrounds, room descriptions, and in-game text, are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.
  • Generative AI Disclaimer: Portions of the codebase, in-game text, lore, mechanics, and visual imagery within Millennium 2099 and on StrikeForceNiner.com have been developed with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence tools. We make no representations or warranties regarding the absolute originality or copyrightability of AI-generated content, and we claim no exclusive copyright over purely AI-generated images. We disclaim all liability for any unintentional similarities between this content and pre-existing third-party intellectual property.
  • Third-Party and Public Domain Imagery: Certain graphical assets displayed on the website, such as astronomical imagery, are sourced from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). We claim no ownership or copyright over these NASA images. They are in the public domain and are used in accordance with NASA media usage guidelines.
  • Virtual Property: All in-game characters, items, currency, and progress remain the exclusive property of StrikeForceNiner.com. You are granted a limited, revocable license to interact with these digital assets. Virtual goods have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged, sold, or redeemed for fiat currency. We reserve the right to modify, delete, or reset virtual property at any time without compensation.

5. User-Generated Content

When you submit comments on the website or transmit chat and text within Millennium 2099, you grant us a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, modify, and use that content. You grant us the explicit right to sublicense and distribute your submitted creative content (such as lore ideas or descriptions) under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, and any submitted code under the MIT License, as part of our open-source releases. We hold the right to moderate or remove any content at any time to maintain a safe environment.

6. User Disputes

You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users. We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor or mediate disputes between players. StrikeForceNiner.com and its administrators bear no liability for the actions, communications, or conduct of any user.

7. Payments, Subscriptions, and Tips

Any financial contributions made through the website, such as tip jar donations or future subscription payments, are entirely voluntary. All transactions are final and non-refundable. Making a payment does not exempt you from the Code of Conduct or grant immunity from account termination.

8. Service Availability, Beta Status, and Data Loss

  • Disclaimer of Warranties: StrikeForceNiner.com and Millennium 2099 are hobbyist projects provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, with all faults and without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we expressly disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, operate without interruption, or be free of bugs, errors, or security vulnerabilities.
  • Infrastructure: The service is hosted on privately owned infrastructure and is subject to unexpected downtime, residential internet outages, and hardware maintenance. We make no guarantees regarding server uptime or uninterrupted access.
  • Data Loss: Routine maintenance, server resets, hardware failures, or software updates will result in the temporary or permanent loss of character data, inventory, or game progress. We are not liable for any such data loss.
  • Force Majeure: We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, electrical storms, power grid failures, residential internet service disruptions, hardware degradation, or other acts of nature.

9. Assumption of Risk

Your participation in Millennium 2099 is entirely voluntary. You acknowledge that extended use of computer games may carry inherent risks, including eye strain, fatigue, or psychological stress related to in-game events and community interactions. By accessing the game, you assume all physical and psychological risks associated with your participation. We are not liable for any personal injury, emotional distress, or other health-related outcomes resulting from your use of the service.

10. Limitation of Liability

In no event will StrikeForceNiner.com or its administrators be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use or inability to use the website or the game.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless StrikeForceNiner.com, its owner, administrators, and affiliates from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms of Service, or your violation of any third-party rights.

12. Copyright Infringement (DMCA)

We respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that your copyrighted work has been infringed upon within the website or the game, please submit a written notice to our designated agent at admin@strikeforceniner.com. Your notice must include a description of the infringed work, its location on the site, and your contact information.

13. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

  • Governing Law: These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
  • Binding Arbitration and Class Action Waiver: Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms of Service or the use of StrikeForceNiner.com and Millennium 2099 shall be resolved by binding arbitration conducted by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall take place in Tarrant County, Texas. You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. You expressly waive any right to participate in a class-action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms of Service is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be deemed severable from these terms and will not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.

15. Changes to the Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting to this page. Continued use of the website or the game following any updates signifies your acceptance of the revised terms.
